About
Anjali Mazumder is Director of AI Research at CIFAR and an interdisciplinary research and innovation leader with over 15 years’ experience in the U.K., U.S. and Canada working to advance the responsible design, development, evaluation and governance of data and AI systems. At CIFAR, she is responsible for the Canada CIFAR AI Chairs program, Pan-Canadian AI Strategy program and activities and the AI & Society Program. Previously, she established and co-led the AI, Accountability, Inclusion & Rights Programme at The Alan Turing Institute, bridging disciplines and sectors and aligning technical AI development with governance, rights and societal impact. She continues to contribute to the development of AI design, governance and assurance mechanisms in high-stakes settings and the advancement of local, sustainable, sovereign, distributed AI ecosystems and South–South cooperation. She has held ministerial advisory and board positions. She is currently a Trustee of the Royal Statistical Society and Visiting Academic at the University of Cambridge. She holds a doctorate in Statistics from the University of Oxford and two master’s degrees from the University of Toronto.
