AI & Society Series: AI & Democracy

The potential risks artificial intelligence poses to democratic institutions are not well understood, in part due to the tension between perceived benefits and harms to society. The AI-Powered Information Ecosystems & Democracy workshop aims to examine how AI impacts democracy.

Led by CIFAR, the AI & Society workshops bring together multidisciplinary teams from different backgrounds and countries to examine the ethical, social, legal and economic potential impacts of AI developments. These workshops are a key programmatic arm of the AI & Society program which is the fourth pillar of the CIFAR Pan-Canadian AI Strategy, the world’s first national AI strategy.
