Les perc\u00e9es r\u00e9alis\u00e9es dans la ma\u00eetrise des mat\u00e9riaux \u00e0 l&rsquo;\u00e9chelle nanom\u00e9trique permettent aux scientifiques de concevoir des mat\u00e9riaux atome par atome, couche par couche, voire d\u00e9faut par d\u00e9faut. En manipulant la structure, la sym\u00e9trie et le d\u00e9sordre avec une pr\u00e9cision exceptionnelle, le programme cherche \u00e0 cr\u00e9er de tout nouveaux \u00e9tats quantiques de la mati\u00e8re : des plateformes sur mesure o\u00f9 des ph\u00e9nom\u00e8nes inattendus peuvent se produire et \u00eatre \u00e9tudi\u00e9s. Ces travaux portent notamment sur les super-r\u00e9seaux artificiels, les structures moir\u00e9es, les mat\u00e9riaux chiraux et les architectures massives innovantes, et s&rsquo;appuient sur une int\u00e9gration minutieuse de la th\u00e9orie, de la synth\u00e8se et des mesures de pointe.<\/p>\n\t<h4>P\u00d4LES D&rsquo;IMPACT<\/h4>\n<p>Le programme Mat\u00e9riaux quantiques fait partie du p\u00f4le d&rsquo;impact Explorer les technologies \u00e9mergentes. Les programmes de recherche du CIFAR s&rsquo;articulent autour de cinq <a href=\"https:\/\/cifar.ca\/fr\/poles-dimpact\/\">p\u00f4les d&rsquo;impact <\/a>distincts qui traitent de grandes questions d&rsquo;envergure mondiale et visent \u00e0 favoriser un environnement propice \u00e0 l&rsquo;\u00e9mergence de perc\u00e9es.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h4>POINTS FORTS DE LA RECHERCHE ET DE L&rsquo;IMPACT SOCI\u00c9TAL<\/h4>\n<b>Mat\u00e9riaux torsad\u00e9s et phases quantiques artificielles<\/b><b><br \/>\n<\/b>En 2018,<a href=\"https:\/\/cifar.ca\/fr\/biographie\/pablo-jarillo-herrero\/\"> Pablo Jarillo-Herrero<\/a>, membre du CIFAR, a d\u00e9couvert la supraconductivit\u00e9 et des \u00e9tats isolants corr\u00e9l\u00e9s dans un graph\u00e8ne bicouche torsad\u00e9 \u00e0 angle magique, cr\u00e9ant ainsi le domaine de la \u00ab\u2009twistronique\u2009\u00bb. Ces d\u00e9couvertes reposent sur des id\u00e9es th\u00e9oriques<a href=\"https:\/\/cifar.ca\/fr\/biographie\/allan-macdonald\/\"> d&rsquo;Allan Macdonald<\/a>, sp\u00e9cialiste-conseil du programme, et le programme Mat\u00e9riaux quantiques \u00e9tend d\u00e9sormais ces concepts \u00e0 d&rsquo;autres mat\u00e9riaux en couches.<a href=\"https:\/\/cifar.ca\/bios\/marcel-franz\/#topskipToContent\"> Marcel Franz<\/a> a propos\u00e9 de tordre des cuprates afin de cr\u00e9er de nouvelles phases \u00e9lectroniques et topologiques, tandis que<a href=\"https:\/\/cifar.ca\/fr\/biographie\/joshua-folk\/\"> Josh Folk<\/a> a explor\u00e9 comment la supraconductivit\u00e9 et les phases magn\u00e9tiques se manifestent dans les syst\u00e8mes \u00e0 base de graph\u00e8ne torsad\u00e9 quand ceux-ci sont empil\u00e9s sur des dichalcog\u00e9nures de m\u00e9taux de transition. Ces \u00e9tudes d\u00e9montrent que la torsion et l&#8217;empilement minutieux des couches permettent de cr\u00e9er et de ma\u00eetriser efficacement des \u00e9tats quantiques exotiques.\n<b>Exploiter le d\u00e9sordre pour d\u00e9couvrir de nouveaux \u00e9tats quantiques<br \/>\n<\/b>Alors que le d\u00e9sordre est souvent jug\u00e9 n\u00e9faste, le programme Mat\u00e9riaux quantiques en fait un axe de d\u00e9couverte. La coresponsable du programme<a href=\"https:\/\/cifar.ca\/fr\/biographie\/alannah-hallas\/\"> Alannah Hallas<\/a> et le membre<a href=\"https:\/\/cifar.ca\/fr\/biographie\/johnpierre-paglione\/\"> Johnpierre Paglione<\/a> con\u00e7oivent des mat\u00e9riaux \u00e0 haute entropie pour ma\u00eetriser le d\u00e9sordre \u00e0 l&rsquo;\u00e9chelle atomique, tandis que le membre<a href=\"https:\/\/cifar.ca\/fr\/biographie\/andrea-damascelli\/\"> Andrea Damascelli<\/a> et le coresponsable<a href=\"https:\/\/cifar.ca\/fr\/biographie\/brad-ramshaw\/\"> Brad Ramshaw<\/a> examinent comment ce d\u00e9sordre fa\u00e7onne le comportement \u00e9lectronique et supraconducteur. Le sp\u00e9cialiste-conseil<a href=\"https:\/\/cifar.ca\/fr\/biographie\/nigel-hussey\/\"> Nigel Hussey<\/a> montre que le d\u00e9sordre peut d\u00e9stabiliser des phases concurrentes ou m\u00eame stabiliser de nouveaux \u00e9tats de la mati\u00e8re. Ensemble, ces initiatives mettent en \u00e9vidence comment l&rsquo;\u00ab\u2009imperfection\u2009\u00bb peut devenir un puissant levier d&rsquo;exploration dans le domaine des mat\u00e9riaux quantiques.\n<b>Faire le pont entre les univers des mat\u00e9riaux 2D et 3D<br \/>\n<\/b>Le programme Mat\u00e9riaux quantiques du CIFAR \u00e9tablit un lien novateur entre les communaut\u00e9s des mat\u00e9riaux quantiques 2D et des mat\u00e9riaux quantiques massifs, en conjuguant des atouts compl\u00e9mentaires. Les techniques et les connaissances issues des mat\u00e9riaux massifs sont appliqu\u00e9es aux syst\u00e8mes 2D, tandis que les plateformes 2D sont utilis\u00e9es pour reproduire la physique complexe des compos\u00e9s massifs. Le programme explore \u00e9galement la cr\u00e9ation de nouveaux mat\u00e9riaux 2D \u00e0 partir de syst\u00e8mes massifs.
