La capacit\u00e9 \u00e0 transmettre efficacement une charge le long d&rsquo;une interface, d&rsquo;un solide vers un \u00e9lectrolyte, d\u00e9termine en fin de compte l&rsquo;efficacit\u00e9 du stockage de l&rsquo;\u00e9nergie.<\/p>\r\n<p>\u00ab Si vous pouvez ma\u00eetriser la physique du solide, si vous pouvez ma\u00eetriser la fa\u00e7on dont les \u00e9lectrons interagissent entre eux et avec les ions, cela peut avoir une forte incidence sur ce transfert de charge interfacial \u00bb, explique Bediako, membre du programme des chercheurs mondiaux CIFAR-Azrieli au sein du programme Mat\u00e9riaux quantiques et professeur adjoint \u00e0 l&rsquo;Universit\u00e9 de la Californie \u00e0 Berkeley.<\/p>\r\n\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cifar.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/Kwanbena_web.png\" alt=\"Kwanbena_web\" itemprop=\"image\" height=\"778\" width=\"800\" title=\"Kwanbena_web\" onerror=\"this.style.display='none'\"  \/>\t\t\t\t\t\r\n\t<h5><strong>\u00ab J&rsquo;ai vraiment voulu trouver une meilleure solution pour stocker l&rsquo;\u00e9nergie solaire. \u00bb<\/strong><\/h5>\r\n\t<p>Voil\u00e0 o\u00f9 entrent en jeu les mat\u00e9riaux quantiques. Ces solides ou cristaux sont si minces que leurs propri\u00e9t\u00e9s sont radicalement et inhabituellement diff\u00e9rentes de celles des mat\u00e9riaux tridimensionnels. En apprenant \u00e0 ma\u00eetriser les param\u00e8tres physiques &#8211; les atomes, \u00e9lectrons et autres particules qui les composent &#8211; et la fa\u00e7on dont ils interagissent dans ces mat\u00e9riaux tr\u00e8s minces, il serait possible de concevoir des technologies de conversion et de conservation de l&rsquo;\u00e9nergie plus efficaces.<\/p>\r\n<p>Mais il s&rsquo;agit l\u00e0 d&rsquo;un seul des probl\u00e8mes li\u00e9s \u00e0 l&rsquo;\u00e9nergie que Bediako cherche \u00e0 r\u00e9gler gr\u00e2ce aux mat\u00e9riaux quantiques. Il cherche aussi \u00e0 r\u00e9soudre le probl\u00e8me de l&rsquo;augmentation de la consommation \u00e9nerg\u00e9tique des appareils \u00e9lectroniques.<\/p>\r\n<p>\u00ab Si l&rsquo;on prend en compte toutes les technologies de communication, les appareils \u00e9lectroniques portables, tous les centres de donn\u00e9es, toute l&rsquo;information que nous envoyons et recevons, cela g\u00e9n\u00e8re d\u00e9j\u00e0 \u00e0 peu pr\u00e8s autant de dioxyde de carbone (CO<sub>2<\/sub>) que l&rsquo;industrie a\u00e9ronautique, explique Bediako. Et \u00e7a, c&rsquo;\u00e9tait avant la COVID. Donc avant que nous apprenions que nous pouvions organiser toutes nos r\u00e9unions et tous nos \u00e9v\u00e9nements sur Zoom et tout diffuser de chez soi. \u00bb<\/p>\r\n<p>Il souhaite d\u00e9couvrir comment synth\u00e9tiser des mat\u00e9riaux aux propri\u00e9t\u00e9s physiques int\u00e9ressantes qui pourraient mener \u00e0 des appareils \u00e9lectroniques moins \u00e9nergivores et \u00e0 une informatique plus \u00e9co\u00e9nerg\u00e9tique.<\/p>\r\n<p>\u00ab L&rsquo;un de nos projets au sein du groupe consiste \u00e0 explorer comment certaines des propri\u00e9t\u00e9s physiques particuli\u00e8res de mat\u00e9riaux comme le graph\u00e8ne et d&rsquo;autres couches atomiques minces pourraient nous aider \u00e0 concevoir de nouveaux catalyseurs pour les piles \u00e0 combustible ou les \u00e9lectrolyseurs \u00bb, explique Bediako.<\/p>\r\n<p>N\u00e9 et \u00e9lev\u00e9 au Ghana, en Afrique de l&rsquo;Ouest, Bediako est venu aux \u00c9tats-Unis pour faire des \u00e9tudes universitaires. Il aspirait au d\u00e9part \u00e0 devenir ing\u00e9nieur en a\u00e9ronautique, mais, motiv\u00e9 par des articles sur la crise climatique imminente, il a commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 s&rsquo;orienter vers le g\u00e9nie chimique avant d&rsquo;opter pour la chimie.<\/p>\r\n<p>\u00ab J&rsquo;ai vraiment voulu trouver une meilleure solution pour stocker l&rsquo;\u00e9nergie solaire. \u00bb<\/p>\r\n<p>Il esp\u00e8re susciter cette passion chez ses stagiaires aussi. \u00ab Ce que j&rsquo;esp\u00e8re le plus, dans les cinq \u00e0 dix prochaines ann\u00e9es, c&rsquo;est de voir mes \u00e9tudiants et mes postdoctorants mener leur propre carri\u00e8re avec succ\u00e8s, peu importe l&rsquo;industrie ou le domaine. En tant qu&rsquo;\u00e9ducateurs, les personnes que nous encadrons et formons constituent notre plus belle r\u00e9alisation. Qui sait ce que la science que nous r\u00e9alisons inspirera \u00e0 l&rsquo;avenir.
