Ford Doolittle, membre de longue date de la communaut\u00e9 du CIFAR, a r\u00e9volutionn\u00e9 notre compr\u00e9hension de \u00ab\u2009l\u2019arbre de la vie\u2009\u00bb \u00e9volutif.<\/em><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ford Doolittle, biologiste mol\u00e9culaire et \u00e9volutive et membre \u00e9m\u00e9rite du CIFAR, a \u00e9t\u00e9 nomm\u00e9 <\/span><a style=\"font-size: 16px;\" href=\"https:\/\/gg.ca\/fr\/personnes-nommees-ordre-canada-30-juin-2025\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Compagnon de l\u2019Ordre du Canada<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> en reconnaissance de ses recherches qui ont fondamentalement modifi\u00e9 notre compr\u00e9hension des origines de la vie.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">L\u2019Ordre du Canada, l\u2019une des plus hautes distinctions au pays, r\u00e9compense des personnes de tous les secteurs de la soci\u00e9t\u00e9 qui ont apport\u00e9 une \u00ab<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2009<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">contribution extraordinaire et durable<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2009<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00bb au Canada. M.\u00a0Doolittle est l\u2019une de deux personnes \u00e0 avoir \u00e9t\u00e9 nomm\u00e9es au titre de Compagnon, la plus haute distinction de l\u2019Ordre.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cifar.ca\/fr\/direction\/#:~:text=W.%20Ford%20Doolittle%2C%20professeur%20%C3%A9m%C3%A9rite%2C%20Universit%C3%A9%20Dalhousie\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Doolittle<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> a \u00e9t\u00e9 le directeur fondateur du programme Biologie \u00e9volutive du CIFAR, qui a pris fin en 2007 apr\u00e8s avoir jet\u00e9 les assises d\u2019une grande partie des recherches actuelles dans ce domaine \u00e0 travers le monde. Cette m\u00eame ann\u00e9e, il a aussi jou\u00e9 un r\u00f4le d\u00e9terminant dans la mise sur pied du programme Biodiversit\u00e9 microbienne int\u00e9gr\u00e9e dont il a \u00e9t\u00e9 membre du comit\u00e9 consultatif.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00ab<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2009<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cet hommage rev\u00eat une grande importance pour moi. C\u2019est en quelque sorte le point culminant d\u2019une longue carri\u00e8re, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 M.\u00a0Doolittle. Je travaille \u00e0 l\u2019Universit\u00e9 Dalhousie depuis presque 54\u00a0ans et les 20\u00a0ann\u00e9es les plus productives ont \u00e9t\u00e9 celles o\u00f9 j\u2019\u00e9tais responsable de programme au CIFAR.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2009<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00bb<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tout au long de sa carri\u00e8re, W. Ford Doolittle a remis en question certaines id\u00e9es re\u00e7ues sur l\u2019ADN et le g\u00e9nome humain. Dans les ann\u00e9es\u00a01970, il a contribu\u00e9 \u00e0 prouver l\u2019\u00ab<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2009<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">hypoth\u00e8se de l\u2019endosymbiote<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2009<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00bb, alors controvers\u00e9e, qui explique l\u2019origine des chloroplastes, ces structures cellulaires v\u00e9g\u00e9tales o\u00f9 se d\u00e9roule la photosynth\u00e8se. Une d\u00e9cennie plus tard, il a soutenu qu\u2019une grande partie de l\u2019ADN \u00e9tait \u00ab<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2009<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00e9go\u00efste<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2009<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00bb ou parasitaire, et existait principalement pour se r\u00e9pliquer. Au d\u00e9but des ann\u00e9es\u00a02000, il a propos\u00e9 que l\u2019\u00e9change de g\u00e8nes, et non \u00ab<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2009<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">l\u2019arbre de la vie<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2009<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00bb de Darwin, expliquait mieux l\u2019\u00e9volution de la vie sur Terre.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00ab<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2009<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Le CIFAR est fier de c\u00e9l\u00e9brer cette reconnaissance bien m\u00e9rit\u00e9e du professeur \u00e9m\u00e9rite W.
