Roland Bénabou is an economic theorist whose research covers a broad set of both macroeconomic and microeconomic issues, with a general emphasis on heterogeneity, market imperfections and social interactions.

Among the topics he has contributed to are inflation, price setting, speculation and search theory; social stratification, education finance and the structure of cities; macroeconomics with heterogeneous agents, and the links between inequality and growth; social mobility and the political economy of redistribution; and economics and psychology, including overconfidence, willpower, intrinsic and extrinsic motivation, identity and ideology.
