Program Officer, AI & Society
About
Austin Barr is the Program Officer for the AI & Society Program at CIFAR. He is responsible for supporting the Solution Networks teams, AI Insights Policy Briefs, AI & Health Care publications and conducting performance monitoring and evaluation activities for the AI & Society portfolio of the Pan-Canadian AI Strategy.
Prior to joining CIFAR, Austin worked at Sunnybrook Hospital conducting clinical research on gastrointestinal cancers. His research background is at the intersection between AI and healthcare, with particular focuses on predictive modeling and social media analysis. Austin has received global recognition for his writing and online science communication and has spearheaded educational initiatives to bolster medical professionals’ awareness, understanding and familiarity with AI.
At McMaster University, Austin supported the design, implementation and teaching of an introduction to AI course. He holds a degree in the life sciences from McMaster University, with a specialization in the origins of disease.
