About
Evelyn Asiedu earned her Honors B.Sc. in Chemistry from Western University in 2013 and later
pursued doctoral studies in Edmonton, focusing her research on identifying chemicals in oil
sands wastewater and assessing their environmental lifetimes. Throughout her studies, Evelyn
actively engaged in environmental and community-building initiatives, promoting diversity and
inclusion in science. In 2020, her article in Maclean’s, “Canadian Universities Must Collect
Race-Based Data,” sparked national conversations on race and equity in academia. Evelyn later
launched The Good and the Bad of Black Grad, a webinar series aimed at supporting Black
scholars and allies. Her contributions led to roles on NSERC EDI Advisory Committees and,
most recently, her election as Vice President of the Canadian Association for the Prevention of
Discrimination and Harassment in Higher Education.
