About
Feyaad Allie’s research explores the intersection of identity and democracy, focusing on how minority and majority groups navigate politics in multi-ethnic societies. His work addresses questions such as: What are the causes and consequences of minority political representation? How does descriptive representation shape political behavior? When and why do divisions emerge within minority groups? How do minorities manage their social identities in majoritarian settings? And how do political parties and voters respond to majoritarianism and exclusionary politics? Feyaad’s regional expertise lies in South Asia, especially India, the world’s largest democracy. His research employs a mixed-methods approach, combining administrative data, original surveys, and in-depth interviews with political elites and voters during fieldwork.
