About
Lipscombe leads a research program in diabetes epidemiology and health services with a focus in two areas: the relationship between diabetes and cancer, and identifying and preventing risk of diabetes after gestational diabetes (GDM). Her overall goal is to identify and target modifiable risk factors and gaps in health care for persons affected by diabetes. Lipscombe has expertise in healthcare administrative database research, cohort studies and pragmatic clinical trials. Her earlier research showed a higher cancer risk, prevalence and stage, and lower cancer screening in diabetes patients. She then developed and trialed a post-GDM diabetes prevention program, and is now conducting a series of studies to quantify risk of diabetes after GDM. Lipscombe is the inaugural director for the University of Toronto’s Novo Nordisk Network for Healthy Populations, a research network that aims to reduce inequities in diabetes burden through better care, lower risk factors, and healthier living environments.
