Tibor Turi

PAICE Project Lead

About

Tibor Turi is the Project Lead for the Pan-Canadian Artificial Intelligence Compute Environment (PAICE) at CIFAR. He is responsible for overall project implementation and partnerships with national stakeholders at Canada’s three national AI Institutes in Edmonton (Amii), Montreal (Mila), and Toronto (Vector Institute) as well as the Digital Research Alliance of Canada, Innovation, Science and Economic Development, Canada (ISED), Calcul Quebec, Prairies DRI, partner universities, and host sites.

Prior to joining CIFAR, he was Executive Director of the Southern Ontario Smart Computing Innovation Platform (SOSCIP), a collaborative industry-academic advanced research computing consortium building R&D partnerships to foster industry adoption of transformative technology through access to leading-edge technology platforms and comprehensive partnership services. Prior to SOSCIP, Tibor held progressively senior leadership roles in industrial research & technical development, market & product development, product applications, intellectual property, business development, and government investment in the innovation ecosystem.

Tibor has held a variety of board positions including as President and Chair of the Ontario Society of Professional Engineers, a professional association that inspires engineers to come together to collaborate with government, industry, academia, and the public to help solve society’s complex community and global challenges.

Tibor received his PhD in Materials Engineering from Queen’s University in the field of metal physics and nanotechnology. He is a licensed Professional Engineer and has received executive certification in Strategy and Innovation from the Sloan School of Business at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
