The renewed support from Quebec will strengthen CIFAR’s network of researchers, policymakers and leading thinkers

Over the next three years, CIFAR will receive $3.75 million from the Fonds de recherche du Québec and $1.6 million from the Ministère d’Économie et Innovation, for a total of $5.35 million. The support will enhance CIFAR’s ability to convene extraordinary minds on pressing problems of interest to Quebec, Canada and the world. This is the first time CIFAR is receiving funding directly from the Ministère d’Économie et Innovation.

“We are very grateful to the Government of Quebec for this new and renewed support of research that will change our world. CIFAR gives the world’s most extraordinary minds the freedom to explore high-risk questions of importance to science and humanity and Quebec is uniquely positioned to lead international collaboration on this scale.”

– Alan Bernstein, CIFAR President and CEO

“Collaboration between researchers in Quebec and abroad is essential to the development of the culture of knowledge in Quebec and to the resolution of the great social challenges of the 21st century, like climate change. Collaborative, multidisciplinary research enriches the exchange of information and contributes to the development of innovations. Our support of CIFAR will increase the scope of flagship initiatives and will be felt in important sectors of Quebec society and its economy, such as Artificial Intelligence.”

– Pierre Fitzgibbon, Minister of the Economy and Innovation, Quebec

“With their support of CIFAR, les Fonds de recherche du Québec are focusing on excellence and innovation. Bringing together internationally renowned researchers, CIFAR’s programs give a boost to research that will generate many positive outcomes. We are proud to assure Quebec’s place at the heart of this exceptional network.”

– Rémi Quirion, Chief Scientist of Quebec
