CIFAR is pleased to announce that it is among the recipients of funding through the Government of Canada’s new Strategic Science Fund (SSF). The funding, which will run from 2024 to 2029, will support CIFAR’s efforts to grow its global research ecosystem, enabling greater breakthroughs and accelerating social impact.
Originally announced by the federal government in 2019, the SSF is a new program — jointly administered by Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada and Health Canada — aimed at improving the effectiveness of federal investments in supporting third-party science and research organizations. CIFAR is among the recipients of its inaugural competition.
“CIFAR is, at its core, a national resource with global connections. CIFAR depends on national-level funding in order to take the risks that have led our programs to numerous profound advances in research,” said Stephen Toope, President & CEO of CIFAR. “I’m delighted that the support through SSF will allow our organization to continue pursuing bold ideas that drive profound impact. I would also like to congratulate fellow third-party organizations who have also received funding through SSF.”
In the coming years, CIFAR plans to refresh its strategic direction. Through continued funding and donor support for fundamental research, the organization aims to align funding towards advancing impact in crucial areas such as building thriving cities, nurturing a resilient earth and shaping the future of human health, to name a few.
CIFAR congratulates other successful recipients of SSF, many of whom are also CIFAR’s partners.
