We are delighted to announce the CIFAR MacMillan Multiscale Human program, supported by the New York-based MacMillan Family Foundation.
Starting in the program’s inaugural year, the Foundation’s gift will ensure that the network of international researchers is positioned to revolutionize the understanding, treatment and prediction of major diseases that cause human suffering in Canada and around the world. The program seeks to understand the human body across various spatial and temporal scales to create an unprecedented map of the human body and help drive medical advances.
“On behalf of CIFAR, I would like to thank the MacMillan Family Foundation for their generous support of USD$5 million. We are thrilled to count the Foundation as a champion of one of our newest and most ambitious programs,” said Stephen Toope, President & CEO of CIFAR. “The CIFAR MacMillan Multiscale Human program combines interdisciplinary expertise and global insights to develop a multiscale understanding of the human body.”
Through its philanthropy, the Foundation supports organizations that help strengthen and enrich our society in three major areas: cancer and medical research, education, and the arts. Nancy MacMillan serves as the Foundation’s President, and Duncan McMillan, one of the founders of Bloomberg L.P., serves as Chairman, alongside other family members.
“Duncan and I hope and expect that this gift will help further discoveries,” said Nancy MacMillan. “CIFAR continues to be at the forefront of addressing humanity’s greatest challenges, and the CIFAR MacMillan Multiscale Human program is poised to do that. We are excited to hear about the collaborations and research advances that will occur over the next few years within the program.”
