We are delighted to announce the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation’s gift to CIFAR supporting our Innovation, Equity & the Future of Prosperity (IEP) program. This gift of US$500,000  enables researchers in CIFAR’s IEP program to examine how the policies used to generate and diffuse innovation affect the distribution of opportunities and outcomes in society.

The program, led by internationally renowned experts on innovation and globalization, consists of some of the world’s leading minds, including economists, sociologists, geographers, engineers, technologists, political scientists, historians, and city and urban planning experts. With diverse research interests at the intersection of innovation, these experts are committed to finding novel solutions that will make innovation equitable.

The IEP program continues CIFAR’s long history of pioneering research in economic growth and development, which has informed the creation of policies and practices to improve the political institutions, laws and even cultural norms that guide the exchange of wealth and power in society.

CIFAR is thrilled to count the Sloan Foundation as a champion of these efforts. The Sloan Foundation is a world-renowned institution dedicated to improving the welfare of all through the advancement of scientific knowledge.

The Sloan Foundation also supports researchers in CIFAR’s Learning in Machines & Brains program, exploring causality in AI by examining the ethical and productive application of machine learning techniques.
